I have been vaguely aware that these dolls are coming for a few days --- but today I woke up and checked my phone, and Lori had texted a link to their first actual images, and I cannot fucking handle this! !!! !!! !
Seriously, when was the last time one modern doll line was so clearly made for me? How about NEVER, oh my aughghghghghghgh, these are too fucking good!
It looks like these dolls actually have different heights, and I love how inclusive they are (which also makes a lot of sense: many many real witches were and are disabled). Of course I also love that all five of them are wearing witch hats, though I do look forward to being able to see those from another angle.
As for the individual dolls . . .
Carina Song (Love Witch)
I'm sorry, but she is obviously my least favorite. I do still love her, I just don't love her as much as the other four. I'm sorry! I love these dolls in general so much that I honestly feel bad saying it, but someone does have to be my least favorite. I like her dress and hair very much, and the surname Song implies that she might be Asian.
Layla Stone (Crystal Witch)
So, as previously mentioned, Carina is my obvious least favorite. I'm not sure who my favorite is because Claire, Rae, and Willow are all so great. And then there is Layla, who also exists. I mean, I do love her! A lot! The jacket, the boots! The dress, the hair, the face, the crystal! Honestly, I love everything about her!
Rae Lumina (Sun Witch)
Okay, um, this doll has a few surface similarities with Raven "Rae" Seddon, aka SUNSHINE, the protagonist of my second favorite book of all time! So of course that is a huge fucking deal for me personally. I love her hair, her boots, everything about her. I could only love her even more if her outfit included a bit more gold OR MAYBE EVEN SOME YELLOW.
Or if she was also a baker, to really hammer home the comparison to Sunshine!
Willow Thorne (Nature Witch)
Look, I do understand that "Willow" is one very big "obviously witchy" name --- but still! A WITCH NAMED WILLOW! A hard-of-hearing witch named Willow with purple hair whose outfit is mostly teal and black and silver? And she's an earth girl? Did you make this doll FOR ME, Mattel?!
Seriously, did you?
Clair de Luna (Clairvoyant Witch)
I LOVE THIS DOLL MORE THAN WORDS CAN SAY! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY, PLEASE!
Seriously, I want two of every doll. One to play with and one to keep in the box forever. This is beyond brilliant!
