Yellowjackets & Other Stuff
Feb. 28th, 2025 11:36 pm Today was Friday, which means there are four more days until Next Check (yay!) and six more days until Yellowjackets 305 (buzz buzz buzz buzz, hurry UP). The wait for new episodes is always excruciating, but this wait will be excruciating times ten. We knew from at least one interview that episode four was going to have a big plot twist that would affect the rest of the season. When I watched the episode and saw this plot twist, I said "WHAT?" out loud at the screen. And then a few seconds later, I said "ARE YOU SERIOUS?"
Without saying anything about what happened, I do have to confess that I am starting to get a little bit worried about the writing. Like, yes, I know it's only episode four of a ten-episode season. I know we still haven't gotten one glimpse of Hilary Swank or Joel McHale, so there is no telling how their characters will affect the story. But still, just, DAMN. Why the fuck would they do that? Obviously I am hoping that the writers do actually know what they're doing, but at this point I really don't even know. I've accepted the fact that season one was definitely the best, and I love all of the actors so much that I will keep watching even if the writing does start to fully suck. But it is kind of disappointing. Yellowjackets has one of the best premises of any television progrum I have ever seen in my life, but at this point the story is so fucking weird that I only care about (maybe) half of the present-day characters. With the rest, it's like, oh, is this plotline even going anywhere or are the writers going to drop it too?
That said, the story of the wilderness is still very compelling. Some episode titles, and especially the description for episode eight, kind of imply that they might finally get rescued this season. Which means that characters who aren't already confirmed to survive will start dropping like flies. And we'll finally see exactly how they descend into the madness that led to hunting Pit Girl in the very first scene of the show. I am very much looking forward to that.
Anyway, other stuff . . .
Today was rough because allergies kicked my ass. At least, I hope it's just allergies. Fortunately I still have some DayQuil tablets, so I brought two to work and took them about halfway through the shift. Now that I'm home, as soon as I turn off my laptop I can rub some Vick's into my chest. I went ahead and ordered some liquid DayQuil (which always seems to work better than the tablets), but it won't arrive until Wednesday or Thursday. If I run out of tablets before then I can still buy some at the general store, but I think they only sell them in packs of four.
Did I have anything else to say? Can't remember. So tired.
