Approximately one week ago, I found a Death Valley job posting that grabbed my interest right away:

"Kitchen Steward (Overnight)"

Basically, it sounds like a lot of what I'm already doing (well, with more deep cleaning and less dishwashing), just, you know, at night. Obviously I want it. I want it really really bad. But I wasn't sure if I was even allowed to apply, since I have been here less than ninety days and it is technically a "different position." So I went to HR and they confirmed that, yes, I have to wait until April 14th to apply.

That's fine, but I want it so bad that I couldn't help but think, hmmm, April 14th is more than two weeks away --- what if someone else swoops in and takes this job before I'm even allowed to apply?!

So I thought about it for a few days, and eventually decided that I should talk to Chuck.

I'm not sure what Chuck's exact job title is, but he's some sort of Assistant Manager who was in my orientation class. I'm definitely more comfortable talking to him than any other manager. Anyway, yesterday I explained the situation to him . . . and he said he would talk to Jamie (F&B Director) when they had a meeting today.

He followed through on this promise, and tonight at work he was walking by me and stopped to say, "Hey man, I think you're locked in."

!!! !!! !!!

Obviously nothing is officially official yet, but I'm not going to let that stop me from visualizing some of the ways this will make my life better, such as . . .

My silly weird brain is naturally wired to be energetic at night and exhausted during the day.

I am a little nervous about surviving my first summer in thee hottest place on Earth, but it will be so much easier if I can sleep through the heat of the day.

No more racing to make it out of work in time to catch the last shuttle!

I can go to the EDR for dinner every single day! (The free shift meals I currently get are tasty, but they are not super filling.)

I'm fairly certain I'll be working alone, which means I can listen to music or podcasts for the entire shift!
