My friend Joey the Baker got a new car a few weeks ago. He talks about it a lot. I mean, if I was a Human Who Drives and arrived in the middle of the desert with no vehicle and then suddenly purchased a vehicle I would also talk about it a lot. So I don’t resent how much he talks about it or anything, I’m just saying, you know, he talks about it a lot.
The past two weekends, I have been in the passenger seat while he drove to Pahrump, then Vegas, then back home and an impromptu trip to Pahrump and back (which I probably would have no-thanks-ed if he hadn’t said we could stop at the dispensary on the way).
Shortly after I arrived at work today, he asked what I’m doing Tuesday. Because he wanted me to be the passenger again while he drove all the way to Vegas so someone can look at his new car.
I said, “Sure, that might be fun” - which he apparently heard as something much more enthusiastic, because after I technically said yes he gave me more details about the trip. Specifically, there were two details that stood out to me:
1. Be ready to leave at 6:30 AM.
2. Bring a day bag just in case they need to look at his car overnight and we have to get a hotel.
If I hadn’t been feeling groggy in a just-getting-started-at-work sort of way, and if he hadn’t sounded so excited about the whole thing, I would have shot him down as soon as he said to be ready to leave at 6:30 AM on My Saturday. I’m sorry, what?
