On Sunday, my five glorious unexpected days off ended and my new schedule began. So far, it looks like: two mornings, two evenings, two days off, three mornings, two evenings, ??? beyond next Wednesday.

(In this case, when I say "evenings," what's printed on the schedule is "4pm-12a.")

In my limited experience with them, morning shifts feel like a lot less pressure than evenings. Today was so easy that I had time to do a bit of sweeping & deck scrubbing & mopping between breakfast and lunch, even though technically I did not "have to" do it.

The best thing about this schedule is that mornings end at 3:00, so when my last morning is followed by my first evening I have twenty-five hours of freedom in between them. A little mini weekend in the midst of my work week. A gift from Chef to me, whether or not he wrote the schedule that way on purpose.

Another thing that's great about mornings is that the cooks seem to feed me more often? Not so much yesterday, but today as I was walking past the line Brayden asked, "Are you hungry, Ryan?" and of course I said yes, and a few minutes later he brought me a plate: one perfect fried egg, one biscuit with gravy, two pieces of bacon, and a small portion of potatoes. When he brought me the plate I said, "Don't tell anyone, but you just became my new favorite person!"

And then an hour or two later, Julio walked over and gave me an omelet!

I realize that's only one of two mornings so far, but it does give me hope for any morning when either or both of them are working.

Of course, I also had my free shift meal around 12:30!

All I'm saying is, I would like work a lot more if the cooks would feed me at least three times every shift. Heh.
But seriously.

P.S. Speaking of work food, I'm pretty sure I have heard that we can now get a BEEF quesadilla for our shift meal! If this is true, I want to try one. Possibly as soon as tomorrow.
