Opening all of my Christmas slash Yule presents is actually giving me the tiniest bit of anxiety, since I'm starting to have just enough toys that I really wonder where I might keep them all. For a second I even thought I might have to avoid buying any toys at all for quite a while . . . but then I realized that no, duh, of course what I need is MORE STORAGE!

For now, something like this should be more than enough space to store every single toy that isn't currently on display (and of course, the top of it gives a bit more display space!). I'm not sure if it should go between the dresser and the AC or if I should move the second bed to keep it on that wall, but either way it has made me think about lots of new stuff that could help make this room even more functional, including:

snap shelf for towels, blankets, and sheets
hanging shelf for shorts
broom & dustpan
mop & bucket
more command hooks
more snacks (always)
smrt teevee
more cleaning products
second storage cart, mostly for snacks
three-tier organizer for bathroom counter
whiteboard
tiny drink fridge
rice cooker
at least one mug that is only for drinking, not holding pens and things

Last night I purchased all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls for only $40. The next time we have a planned power outage, I will actually have the option to download some episodes! (I don’t know why, but this is not possible on Netflix OR DisneyPlus.)

Oh my fucking gush! Wicked For Good will be available to watch from home in like TWO DAYS! As soon as I saw the ad I flew to Amazon and preordered it! I am THRILLED, I didn’t think this would happen for at least a few more months! Sometimes good things actually do happen to wicked witches who are stuck in the middle of the desert!

I downloaded the soundtrack about two weeks ago and have not listened to it yet, but I did see that it begins with a new song called “Every Day More Wicked,” and ever since I learned this I have been beside myself with excitement.

I just ordered all four Original Sketch TMNT figures for only $38.32!

Why Not

So I’ve been watching some Crimbus stuff today. Currently downloading three Doctor Eleven specials.

When it occurred to me: I might as fucking well go ahead and also watch the Crimbus episode of Buffy, RIGHT?!

Let’s see, I want to download it just in case, and for some reason DisneyPlus will only let me do that on my Kindle, not the laptop . . .
ryanreacts: (Default)
We lost Wi-fi signal around 11:30 pm Christmas Eve and it stayed gone until about noon today (but we are Having Weather, so it might come and go all week or something), so the only Christmas things I had downloaded to watch were Batman Returns, Krampus, and one episode of Modern Family. The third of which is the one I chose. Cam and Jay made me laugh so hard it hurt. The two brownies also helped with that, but it’s a genuinely hilarious scene.

Anyway, today I have opened approximately half of my presents so far. Just downloaded the Crimbus episode of CW Charmed. Might or might not watch The Grinch or A Muppets Christmas Carol or Doctor Who or something. I don’t know. I still haven’t watched Krampus in years, and technically I did watch Batman Returns a few days ago, but I was not fully paying attention to it, so could totally watch again tonight . . ,

Like I said, just a brief update. Not much else going on. December Depression makes me extra sensitive, so work has been a struggle. I’m still doing pretty good about not spending on stuff I don’t need. I am making more of an effort to stock up on snacks. The soaps that Lori sent me are next-level.

One pakidge I picked up today was the smaller Sanrio HALLOWEEN Advent Calendar. Yeah, I opened all nine figures (plus however many non-figure surprises) with zero regrets. If I could figure out how, I would post a photo or two here.

Speaking of Sanrio stuff, I love my Halloween blanket so goddamn fucking much that I might order another one just like it.

P.S. I need to talk to Chef about the possibility of taking some time off for several days around April tenth and maybe getting paid for them.

Okay, so today was only My Tuesday, and so far this week has been even more of a struggle than usual for reasons of Hell Is Other People.

Yesterday, about half an hour before the end of my shift, for at least the second time, I dropped off a dish in the bakery while someone else was in there having an actual conversation with Kayleigh.

Now, this was at least the second time she has done this: as I walk past she will say something like, "I bet Ryan is starting to get real sick of me for makin' him clean so many dishes" instead of actually asking me if that is how I feel or, you know, saying nothing and just letting me drop off your goddamn clean dishes in silence while you continue your conversation with whoever else is actually in there spending time with you.

Anyway, this time as soon as she said, "I bet Ryan--" I snapped and said, rather loudly, without looking at her or the other person, "Ryan HATES IT when other people put words in his mouth" and walked out of there without waiting for any response.

Of course that made me kind of dread working with her again today, but fortunately our interactions were all very brief. (I guess she noticed my no-tie shoelaces for the first time, because she asked how I got them that way. It was cute.)

And then today, Gina complained AGAIN about the bins.

Let me back up a bit and explain. The dish pit has two bins full of pre-soak to make the human dishwashers' lives a tiny bit easier. One for silverware, one for ramekins. Pretty simple concept, right? That was a rhetorical concept, but apparently the answer is . . . maybe.

To me the bins should be nearly impossible to confuse, since the silverware goes in a bigger BLACK bin and the ramekins go in a significantly smaller WHITE bin,

but apparently some servers do struggle with the concept quite a bit.

In fact, some of them struggle so much that MORE THAN TWO MONTHS AGO, I actually switched my setup so that it should be physically impossible for them to "forget" that the ramekin bin is there. Shortly after making this switch, Joe the bartender (who is cool!) said something, and I winked and said, "I moved them because some people who aren't you forget that there are two separate bins" and he laughed and it was nothing. Gina also said something fairly soon and I politely brushed it off, but in my head I was thinking, You've been here forever, I know you can do this.

A few other people did have questions, but I don't remember those interactions. I'm always happy to answer questions and it's no big deal, especially if they are new here, especially if I am re-filling the bin they're trying to drop something off in at that very moment, especially if whatever, I don't care, just get my attention and be polite and I'll happily answer every time.

Anyway, I don't remember how many times it has happened since the first time, but today was the latest time Gina complained about which bin goes where. She actually asked if she could move them and I said sure, but every time she brings this up, I can't help but think: Okay, so you noticed you dropped something in the wrong bin, and instead of fixing it in one second you want to spend unlimited time complaining about which bin goes where?

Seriously, at this point I don't even care. Of course I would love it if everyone who drops off any dishes would respect the bins and only drop silverware in the silverware bin and only drop ramekins in the ramekin bin, but I understand that mistakes happen, and I understand that different dishwashers have different setups and that may make it confusing from the other side of the pit . . . but I honestly do not care anymore. The one thing I will say anything about is not dropping butter dishes in either bin, because that will make the entire bin extra gross. Do I appreciate it when people turn on their brains and open their eyes enough to remember there are two separate bins? Yes, of course. Does it ruin my mood when stuff does get dropped in the wrong bins? No, of course not.

So yeah, she's just going on and on and on and on about this problem which seems to only be a problem for her, and at this point I really want to say, "Look, if you can just consistently make sure that your silverware and your ramekins are always submerged in some fucking bin you will be exceeding expectations. I am working by my damn self and my pit is set up in a way that makes sense to me. Please go find a real problem to complain about. Have you really been here ten years? Damn."

And I realize that all the terrible shit I've been through makes it difficult to communicate with anyone about anything, but oh my fucking gosh, this hurts my brain so much. You are literally the only person who has a problem with this, but you have to make it everyone else's problem? Has anything bad ever happened to you in your entire life? What the actual fuck is wrong with you?

Obviously no one here knows about how traumatized I am by all the horrible shit I've barely survived, but it's so frustrating, because I never feel safe unless I'm at home, so every time I leave my room I have to put up my shields and keep my expectations low; I am just trying to get through the day without anyone yelling at me, but even then I know someone is probably going to say something mean to me or treat me like I don't exist, and I do not have any fucks to give about something this fucking stupid, Gina.

Well, it's not quite seven pm yet, and today has been pretty fucking great so far!

Obviously power outages are never ideal, but this one was planned, so I was able to get as prepared as currently possible.

I did not sleep through the whole thing, but while I was awake I didn't just watch stuff the whole time! I used my phone to play music (and used its flashlight for some extra brightness even though I did have light coming in through the window) and made some new potions. I also spent a very relaxing twenty or so minutes putting together a Sanrio sticker scene, which I have taped to the wall above my AC.

And the power came back on a little more than half an hour early!

And then later, I checked Walmart yet again, and it turns out that the bag I love so much IS still on sale and DID recently get some colors restocked! I ordered red, gray, and dark green so fucking fast!

Yes, this will be seven different colors of the same fucking bag. Would be eight, but rose gold still isn't in stock and I don't like how they gave the black bag brown straps & trim instead of making it all black (like they did with orange and lilac, so I know they fucking can!)

Downloads!

Work was actually quite nice tonight. For the second week in a row, on Thursday, aka My Friday, Chef has scheduled me to deep-clean from 3-11 while Alex takes care of dishes. (Actually the third week, but the first week he tried this was the week after Thanksgiving, so I suspected that he had accidentally copy & pasted my schedule, because why else did it say 1-10 again, and Kristen agreed, so after half an hour she let me go home . . . because Chef didn't mention this plan to anyone until Kristen sent an email explaining that she let me go home and he responded to it. I don't know why he's so weird about communicating. But whatever.)

In a way this is obviously the most difficult day of my work week. Even with one of my little fans clipped to my shirt, I sweat a lot when I'm deep cleaning. But hey, it's cleaning that no one really has time for without it being scheduled this way, and of course cleaning can be a very nice way to kill time on the clock, and tonight was exponentially more pleasant because I realized, hey, there's no reason I can't put my phone in my pocket and blast music while I work!

That was fucking great, but eventually I did have to stop the music because it drained my battery.

It's not like this was the first time I've ever listened to music at work or anything. Sometimes I put in one earbud, although I have to be very careful with this because I can easily sweat so much that I worry about damaging the earbud. Heh. In theory I could get another speaker, but haven't yet because a) one of the cooks is usually blasting their own speaker unless b) Chef is there, and I kind of get the sense he wouldn't appreciate stuff like Wicked or Mean Girls or Encanto, so c) if I did have one, the times I could comfortably use it would be limited.

Another thing that happened at work, after everyone else had left the kitchen, was:
Alex told me that Anthony wants to quit being a server's assistant and transfer to BOH and be a dishwasher.
I am somewhat unsure how to feel about this prospect. On the one hand, yes, of course it would be wonderful to have four of us again; on the other hand, Anthony is so goddamn fucking boring that if he really does make this request and get approved and actually transfer, I might have to beg Chef to let us work together a maximum of one shift a week---
but THEN AGAIN, as I was typing this out it occurred to me that a fourth dishwasher could make my schedule a bit more flexible.

Let's think about this. Right now, Kyle is pretty much locked in for five mornings a week. That leaves two for me. And Alex works five dinners a week, also leaving two for me. Plus, as of recently, that bonus Thursday of nothing but cleaning.

With a fourth dishwasher added to the schedule, the easiest and most practical thing would be to have him work with Alex so that more cleaning can happen than just on Thursday.

I definitely want to keep both of my morning shifts (because they're fucking great), which are usually slow enough between breakfast and lunch that I have some time to deep-clean the dishpit just because I'm bored. And even though it's new, I quite like this Thursday cleaning shift because it's nice to see Alex.

So what do I even want?

Assuming that Alex and Anthony always work together, there will still be two nights a week when I need to work dinner. Which would mean I'm still only available for one shift of "just" cleaning, BUT with a fourth person we can get more cleaning done, like, at least leave the floors looking great every single fucking night (and I'm saying floors plural because, technically, the kitchen contains multiple rooms; I just counted, and it's at least fourteen). I could make a deal with Chef that when I work my solo dinners I will deep-clean these floors on this night and these floors the next night even though it could mean going into overtime. Tonight I was pleasantly surprised to see that Andy had cleaned the floors in the three rooms that FOH use the most, which saved me at least twenty minutes. Maybe we could make that happen more often. Heck, maybe that could happen more often even if Anthony never transfers.

But if he does, there are possibilities.

Yes, hurrah, we are having a planned power outage tomorrow, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Obviously it would be nice if I could just sleep through the whole thing, so to that end I will be eating more than one weed baked good tonight.

Also tonight, I want to wash my Sanrio Halloween blanket. It isn't dirty or anything, I just really want to snuggle under it after it has been freshly washed & dried.

I have plenty of stuff downloaded so that I can watch without power. I'll be sure to get my laptop and Kindle fully charged while we do have power. Another thing I might do tomorrow (if I'm not sleeping) is put together that new potions kit! And, of course, I have plenty of books I could read even though I have not felt like reading much lately . . .

Today's Advent Calendar Surprise was Golden Kuromi! The only figures I have left are one more Kuromi, a second Keroppi, and two more Hello Kittys. I recently ordered a similar but smaller set of nine Halloween figures, which I am very excited about.
ryanreacts: (Default)
1. The Berenstain Bears Christmas Special

2. various Doctor Who Christmas Specials (especially the ones featuring Doctor Fifteen or Doctor Eleven)

3. The Sabrina Christmas Special (Netflix Sabrina, not Nineties Sabrina)

4. Gilmore Girls 110, "Forgiveness and Stuff"

5. KRAMPUS

6. Batman Returns!

7. The Christmas Chronicles

8. Elf, duh

9. any or all Christmas episodes of Modern Family

10. any or all Christmas episodes of 30 Rock

11. that one Disney World Christmas Special I vaguely remember from when I was a kid?

12. Hearth's Warming Eve

13. Buffy the Vampire Slayer 310, "Amends"

And I'll end this list here, but I am also very open to the possibility of watching more Christmas horror movies.

Allegedly, three Amazon pakidges were left in a parcel locker yesterday: Black Widow, Rachel Summers, and my pink Halloween wrapping paper! (The purple arrived a few days ago, so I could actually spend a chunk of My Weekend wrapping presents.)

Ah, eBay also says they delivered a doll!

And then I have one more Amazon pakidge (maybe more than one? Multiple items, so it's possible) arriving in a day or two, plus one more present from eBay --- and after that, I truly want to take a small break from shopping for toys for a while. I don't know how long "a while" is, but if I order any more stuff online it will be cannabis, SNACKS, something really useful for my room, or something fun that is really really really worth the money.

Seriously, I do need to order some snacks very soon.
ryanreacts: (Default)
Well, my usual December depression is here. Leaving my room for any reason is an epic struggle, because I literally have no energy for any fucking thing. Oh well, whatever.

Last night I finished The Residence, which is AMAZING, and now I'm not sure what to watch tonight.

In twenty minutes it will be December twelfth, and I still have not jumped ahead in my Advent Calendar even though I have been tempted many times. So far, I have opened: Tuxedo Sam, My Melody, Badtz-Maru, a stupid shoddy cardboard sleigh that I had to assemble myself, Keroppi, Cinnamoroll, a second Tuxedo Sam, another stupid non-figure, a third stupid non-figure, Pompompurin, and a second Cinnamoroll.

A few days ago, I opened Dream Besties Ken and Renee. I was SUPER excited about these fucking dolls, but opening them was somewhat disappointing. Of course I am still glad I have them, but they both need a little salon time AND the plastic band placed around Ken's waist left two creases in his shirt, and yeah, my enthusiasm for these dolls has deflated just a bit.

Brooklyn had already shipped, but I canceled my order for the other four. I'll probably get them all eventually, but right now Sanrio, Turtles, and vintage Skippers and Courtneys are exponentially more fun. If I'm even allowed to spend fun money on myself, which I really should not. Sigh.

Jesus fucking Christ, I am so goddamn fucking tired.
ryanreacts: (Default)
I still have not jumped ahead with my Advent Calendar, which is getting more and more difficult, because the rude jerks at Jazwares gave me a non-figure surprise yesterday and then did it again today! Obviously I still love the figures more than words can say, and I know there will be six days when the surprise is something other than a figure, but those days are still disappointing. I wish I had last year’s calendar so I could still open a figure every day.

Obviously, I’m pretty dang obsessed with Sanrio at the moment. A sticker set should arrive in a few days, and I ordered a My Melody plush bag clip with a current delivery estimate of sometime between the 18th and the 31st. I also really want some sort of pencil case (either just My Melody or several characters) to keep in my bag, but haven’t picked one yet.

ryanreacts: (Default)
These are toys that I would totally order right now, if only I had unlimited money and storage space.

1. every single Dream Bestie that I don't already have in this room or on the way here

2. all four Jewel Hair Mermaid Barbie dolls

3. Pet Pals Skipper, Courtney, and all four fashion packs

4. Purple Panic Christie, Perfect Pink Teresa, Extreme Green Skipper, Cool Blue Barbie

5. Barbie as Doctor Thirteen

6. multiple Monster High playsets (for my Dream Besties)

7. every Briar Beauty ever

8. more Elphaba dolls and a few Glindas

9. literally every Make It Mini Hello Kitty food (I really want to buy as many of these as possible; I need to buy the special flashlight)

10. several Star Darlings dolls

11. basically every Kenner Batman Returns figure or vehicle/playset I can find

12. Ginger Breadhouse

13. MORE X-Men action figures

1. Collecting Barbies: vintage and Dream Besties
The thrill of collecting vintage Barbies is so fucking obvious that talking about it is kind of like explaining the difference between water and fire. I suppose if I absolutely had to try to explain it, I would say something about how, because being an adult in 2025 is so fucking awful, the ritual of finding and purchasing a toy that I remember from childhood is seriously soothing.
As for Dream Besties, clearly they are not The Best Barbies Ever or anything, but Child Me would have been obsessed with them and that is enough for Current Me to be obsessed with them, but if I do "need" to find any more of a reason to love these dolls so much, as a casual collector who is vaguely aware of the web series but has only ever paid attention to the dolls, I guess I could say that
* while it is wonderful that Barbie can be anything from a baker to an astronaut, it's also really nice when Mattel lets her just be a teenager having a sleepover with her best friends
* it's very fun how they found a way to shake up the usual formula of "Barbie the blonde white girl and her three ethnic friends." Like, for real, this is so simple but so brilliant. I love that the line is centered around two best friends named Barbie, neither of whom are actually called Barbie.
* this is specific to me, but every Dream Besties doll that I add to my collection will be a witch
So yeah, I love these dolls so much that I am already imagining future photo shoots and thinking about buying one or more playset that can easily be folded up for storage. I also really want to get them a bunch of the Make It Mini Hello Kitty foods.

2. Sanrio Advent Calendar
This thing is more fun than words can say. I'm very into Sanrio characters in general right now, so opening a new one every day makes it much easier to avoid buying way too many of them. Badtz-Maru has been my favorite since the late nineties, and of course I vibe with Kuromi, but right now I am "most" into My Melody and Cinnamoroll --- who, by the way, was today's surprise! When this particular Advent Calendar is done I will definitely be ordering another set of figures

3. Native Skincare
I don't really remember how this brand's face wash first got on my radar, but I tried it a few months ago and loved it so much that I now use their shampoo and hand soap every day.

4. Spicy Ranch
Whenever I get a free meal at work, I make myself a side cup of ranch and pour several shakes of Tapatio on top. It's SO GOOD.

5. Gilmore Girls
There's nothing new to say about how much I love a show that is literally one of my top three all-time favorites, but I've been watching it a lot lately, and it still blows my mind.

Impatience

Dec. 5th, 2025 01:39 pm
ryanreacts: (Default)
This is not unexpected, but today I am definitely struggling with a few thoughts like "Would it really be that bad if I opened tomorrow's Advent Calendar surprise today?" or "Would it really be that bad if I opened the rest of the Advent Calendar surprises today?" or "Would it really be that bad if I opened one of my Dream Besties today?"

So far I am remaining steadfast, although I am seriously thinking about opening some Turtles.

But while I'm thinking about Dream Besties, I should go ahead and pick one Brooklyn and order her with Skater Malibu. If they both arrive in time, I will have FIVE of these dolls to open on Christmas Day! That would be most excellent.

Alright, well, Skater is also my favorite Brooklyn doll from this line. Unfortunately, the cheapest price I can find for her right now is a little less than $32.

But!

Zia is less than $17, so she's getting added to my cart as well!

The best deal I can find on Daisy is only a few dollars less than Skater Brooklyn, so I can live without her for now. As fond as I am of Daisy in general, this particular Daisy doll is, um, not my favorite.

However, I am rather tempted to treat myself (after all, this is for Christmas!) to Skater Renee and Teresa as well, since they have both been reduced from $21.59 to $16.

Hmmmm.

That really is something to think about.

I already have three Dream Besties dolls that I am planning to open on Christmas Day, in addition to however many other presents . . . but in one Amazon transaction, I could order FIVE more for a little less than $100. Allegedly Brooklyn would arrive on Wednesday the 17th, while the other four would arrive one day before her.

If I do this, that's most of the Dream Besties I need (well, I don't "need" any of them, but you know what I mean). I will get Daisy eventually, but she'll need better clothes and possibly a new hairstyle and maybe even a haircut, I don't know. Other than that I might get a few more Brooklyns or Malibus? And, well, I most likely will get the new beach dolls eventually.

But the point is, I could be mostly done with this line for now. And I would have EIGHT of them to open on Christmas Day: Ken, Renee, Teresa, Zia; and Skater Brooklyn, Malibu, Renee, and Teresa.

Okay, I have talked myself into it!

"Order placed, thanks!
Confirmation will be sent to your email."

Ahhh, what a rush.

Dolls make me so happy.
ryanreacts: (Default)
Honestly, Christmas hasn't really been my thing for over twenty years, and being a dish drone in the middle of the desert doesn't really inspire me to get into the spirit, but I am trying a little to get into the spirit anyway. Of course, my Advent Calendar is a big part of this. So far, I have opened Tuxedo Sam, My Melody, Badtz-Maru, a stupid shoddy cardboard sleigh that I had to assemble, and Keroppi. Don't know who I will get tomorrow, can't wait to find out.

Anyway, the other thing I'm going to do is wrap some presents. My pink and purple Halloween paper should arrive in a few days, and if there is enough of it I intend to wrap:
* Batman Returns Catwoman, Robin, possibly one more figure if it will arrive in time?
* Dream Besties Renee, Teresa, Ken, posssibly others? (I know I want Skater Malibu, but need to choose one Brooklyn and ideally order them together)
* various TMNT toys - some Mutant Mayhem, some not
* Pizza Party Skipper and Courtney
* Babysitter Skipper and Courtney
* Beyond Pink Barbie
* Ruby Sunday
* Doctor Fifteen
* Elphaba
* maybe a book or two? even a notebook?

If I think about it, I can borrow a mug and a hot chocolate packet from work. After I survive whatever hell shift is going to happen, I can come home and have a long hot very hot shower, then put on some pajama pants and a TMNT shirt and have some hot chocolate while I open presents and watch the Berenstain Bears Christmas Special and then some Doctor Who or maybe a movie
