I thought it might be fun to write up just a few of my thoughts on what I've been watching for the last week or so. Crazy Rich Asians: They sold me a ticket the second I saw Constance Wu in the trailer. The fact that she turned out to play the main character was a nice bonus. The entire cast is Asian, making this movie kind of a big deal. I enjoyed it immensely, and plan on seeing it again sooner than late. It is an odd little branch of escapism, though. These characters are literally the one percent, and here I am thanking fuck that I get to see it for free because of A-List. To All The Boys I've Loved Before: Yay, even MORE Asian representation in the heterosexual romantic comedy genre! I've actually known about this one for a while, thanks to Hypable, and it grabbed my attention because the author had to wait for an adaptation that didn't try to whitewash the characters. (Fun Fact: Same thing happened to the author of Crazy Rich Asians, which has "Asians" right there in the title!) Then I found out that Janel Parrish (Mona from Pretty Little Liars) would play the main character's big sister. THEN I found out that the main character would be played by Lana Condor, aka JUBILEE from X-Men: Apocalypse. (Not that they gave her much material, but Jubilee is one of my faves from way back.) So anyway, I loved it. I haven't gotten high enough for a second viewing yet, but it has only been five days. Season six of Orange is the New Black: This show is too realistic. The longer it goes on, the more depressing it gets. Season six came out almost a month ago, of course, and when it did I binge-watched it in three days. Then I thought it would be fun to re-watch the whole series. Now that I have seen what goes down in season six, season five was fun because WHY THE HELL COULDN'T RED JUST LEAVE PISCATELLA TIED UP FOR THE STORMTROOPERS TO FIND? The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: Fiiiiinally started this last night, am now up to episode three, will likely watch episode four before bed tonight. The whole first season is only eight episodes, but I just can't pace myself. Amy Sherman-Palladino (and Dan!) can write funny compelling characters in any era. It's hilarious (which, for a show about stand-up comedy, is not unimportant), but it also leaves you with that oh-lord-and-THEN-what-happens? feeling at the end of every episode. I honestly can't wait to finish writing this so I can start the next one. P.S. Part of the reason I finally got into it was: I needed a break from Orange. That's pretty much the only thing I've been watching (except for movies) all month, and see above about how depressing it is. Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors: The first six episodes are pretty freaking hexcellent, but the point is I WANT A KAMALA DOLL NOW. She can go to superheroes with me. Especially her favorite superhero movie of them all, Captain Marvel. Which is really truly actually finally coming out in March, you know, just months away now . . . I also want all of the other dolls, but I REALLY want Kamala. I will preorder her months in advance, I'm not even kidding.
