Apr. 19th, 2024 04:29 pm I suppose now is a good time to briefly gush about the teevee I've been watching lately.
MONSTER HIGH - This show is so good it's scary! Goobert has been my favorite character since the second he first showed up, but I honestly love pretty much everyone. Cleo, Lagoona, and Toralei are all great, of course, but so are all three of the main trio. Deuce is great, Manny is great, Clawd is great. Abbey is great, Twyla is great (she could easily become my favorite not-Goobert character if she appeared more often), Headmistress Bloodgood is great, and Mrs O'Shriek is great. Heath is also great, but my only major complaint from the entire first season is that him being the son of Hades makes no sense unless he takes after HIS MOM, who never appears. And when Hades does appear, he has fire hair like Heath for some reason. (Also, um, who the fuck IS his mom, anyway? Did Hades cheat on Persephone?!)
But other than that one annoyance, I really don't know what to say about this show, other than I love it. As of this writing the last episode I saw was 203, so there are four new episodes waiting for me to watch them.
Oh, and of course watching the show does make me want to buy dolls, but so far I have resisted the temptation. So far.
DOCTOR WHO - I finally watched all four of last year's specials a few days ago, and of course they're so much fun that I immediately watched them a second time. Obviously it was great to see David & Catherine together again, and I am so excited to finally see Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor! He only has one and less-than-a-half episodes so far, and it is true that I have loved his actor since season one of Sex Education, but I still feel like there could be a chance that he might become my favorite Doctor? We shall see!
Season one (or season fourteen, or season forty) premieres in a few weeks. I've seen the trailer a few times, and oh yes, having this to look forward to will definitely help me get through the summer, even if work is crazy.
X-MEN '97 - For the first few weeks I really thought I might wait until the entire season was available before I watched. Then episode five came out, and as usual Twitter had some spoilers, but this time they were so big that my resolve dissipated on the spot and I paid for Disney Plus specifically to watch this show.
I knew I was going to love it, and guess what? I LOVE IT.
Storm has always been my favorite X-Man, my favorite Marvel character full stop, and my favorite comic book superhero in general. She's also one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, right up there with Elphaba and Korra and Tiffany and Willow and Harriet. I watched episode six less than twenty-four hours ago, and she gets a scene which is so goddamn fucking awesome that I have already watched it at least a dozen times and will probably watch it again as soon as I finish typing this entry. I love her so much more than words could ever say.
GOLDEN GIRLS - Frankie and I have watched the entire first season and a few episodes of season two in the last few weeks. Really don't have much to say. This progrum is STILL wildly popular more than three decades after it ended for a reason, you know? I'm usually stoned when we watch, but even if I wasn't I would laugh my ass off.
CHARMED - Frankie and I are continuing season five at a leisurely pace. The night before last we watched the episode where Piper gives birth to the baby. But since the episode ends right after he's born, he hasn't gotten a name yet. I asked Frankie if she could guess his name. She guessed "Chris" (she saw a TikTok where someone mentioned "Chris Halliwell," but we haven't made it to his first episode yet) (note: when we do, she will know that his last name is Halliwell a long time before that gets revealed) and something else and then said, "Wyatt? No, that's so stupid! That's his last name!" Obviously I bit my tongue, but I am very excited for her to watch the next episode and find out that Piper really does name him Wyatt. Which isn't his last name (Frankie forgot Halliwell babies keep that name), but is his father's. She's right, it is so stupid that it can't possibly be true. And yet, it is canon.
