 Obviously I always remember that I have the same birthday as Professor McGonagall, but I often forget that in 2001 my birthday was the airdate of "Charmed Again," Paige's first episode!

October 5th = Time to watch the Gilmore Girls pilot, twenty-five years after the day it first aired on The WB

So excited! This show is a literal top three favorite, so the fact that it just happened to get started one day after my birthday has turned into a tradition of watching the first episode one day after my birthday every year.

 I opened so many presents, I might not even be able to remember them all.

I just opened Frankie's box, so I'll start there. She sent me . . .
* two small Wicked tumblers with glass straws (one Elphaba, one Glinda) (obviously) which I will wash ASAP after arriving at work tomorrow!
* another great Wicked gift: THE GRIMMERIE JOURNAL
* one Luke's mug that I told her I don't love because the Luke's logo does not say "Gilmore girls"
* a very gay reusable shopping bag
* and a Kavu bag that she showed me months ago - it has a black background with a pattern of colorful popsicles

Lori sent me . . .
* one adorable blind box frog (I got the green one, who is very cute, but kind of had a feeling I would get the pink & yellow one, who I now want)
* a journal with Hekate on the cover!
* twenty Mixies Minis who were mailed to me in an adorable REVERSIBLE box
* and that new amazing Kuromi doll, who is no less amazing because I knew she was coming (but if she hadn't been a gift, I would have ordered her from myself within a few days of whenever I knew that Lori was going to order her for me --- that's how amazing she is, okay? I seriously love her)

And then, of course I bought myself many several birthday presents (the most exciting one being, obviously, an eBay box containing almost every Animorphs book!), but the things I actually opened on my actual birthday were . . .
* X-Men '97 JUBILEE action figure (oh my fucking gosh)
* X-Men '97 Stretchy BEAST (still glad I got him, but unfortunately he does have that stretchy plastic smell)
* Mighty Ducks Mallory action figure (have wanted since childhood)
* this gnome advent calendar (no notes, perfect purchase)
* X-Men '97 JUBILEE Funko Pop
* three separate packs of tiny trolls
* and one The Loyal Subjects MMPR Trini figure for Kuromi (who, as it turns out, can only just barely even hold her, and then could easily drop her at any moment)

I think that's everything!

Thrilled to have all of this cool new Stuff in my room, but what I really really really want right now is a goddamn fucking DAY OFF. Which I will actually finally get after tomorrow. Day ten of ten (originally scheduled as day ten of eleven until we hired a new dishwasher and everything changed), and then I am off until Wednesday, October 8th, at 6:00 PM.

That is currently one of the most beautiful sentences I have ever written.

I love Professor Lupin, but I just noticed something.

If he hadn’t seen Peter Pettigrew on the Map and then LEFT THE MAP ON HIS DESK, Snape never would have been able to find any of them and get involved in the drama.

Obviously the story would have found another way for Snape to get involved in the drama, but that is kind of my point. Making Lupin do something so stupid is, well, stupid. I’ve never noticed it before, and now it is really bothering me.

I had a feeling the schedule *might* change a bit, *if* we could hire a new dishwasher . . .

Apparently, we did! I’m now going to be off on October sixth AND seventh, not just the seventh!

Since today is October second, after today I will just have to work three of the best days of the year (Mean Girls Day, My Birthday, and Gilmore Girls Day) to get to my days off!

And on my birthday and the next day, I get to train the new dishwasher.

Callooh, callay!

Yummy

There is a new-ish cook at work. The other day I asked him to make me a cheeseburger and he asked if I would rather have a smash burger.

Obviously I said, “Hell yeah, that sounds way better!”

Obviously it was.

Obviously I just had another one.

I took a later shuttle to The Ranch for lunch and used this journey as an excuse to pick up that big box of toilet paper from the post office (finally: it’s been available for pick-up since 12:01 PM Friday), and on my way to the counter I found an eBay paperback in my box!

Anyway, in just a few minutes I gotta leave for work again . . .

ryanreacts: (Default)
 Currently waiting at post office:
* big box of toilet paper (which I have now delayed picking up two mornings in a row because I had so many other smaller pakidges)
* Wicked/Son of a Witch

INCOMING:
ebay
* five paperback books (including Megamorphs 4!) in three pakidges - all likely being delivered today

Walmart
* NONE

Amazon
* one Wicked doll and two X-Men 97 Funko Pops - arriving tomorrow in (?) two pakidges
* Wicked: The Grimmerie - scheduled to arrive on my actual birthday, but it will probably actually be delivered sooner

And on that note, I really need to slow down on the spending and save more throughout October. I am planning to order one doll (total cost: about $61) on my actual birthday, and may treat myself to a few more books, but other than that, I will try to limit any spending on anything I don't really Need, you know?

 Obviously, this whole "working eleven consecutive days before getting one day off" situation is kind of a bummer.

But I am trying to focus on good stuff, like . . .

Reading Harry Potter! This is always fun, even though I wish that in the present day Joanne would shut the fuck up.

I also have lots of other new books (including a few that are waiting to be picked up from the post office!), which feels fantastic even if I am only reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban "right now."

I just got paid, and I keep telling myself that one good thing about all this work is that my next check should be somewhat fatter than normal!

There are currently quite a few pakidges waiting at the post office, including that Courtney doll from 1990.

Speaking of pakidges and fun stuff, I will have quite a bit to open on my actual birthday. It will be nice to have a little moment of celebration before I have to get ready for day nine of eleven. Maybe I can find some sort of cake at the general store, but opening presents will be enough. I'd rather have a day off (NOW) than cake right now anyway. And we all know how much I love cake.

Approximately two weeks ago, we got a new shuttle driver who I like a lot. She's friendly, which is nice, but the main thing I like so much is that she's consistent and punctual.

It’s interesting that Quidditch doesn’t have coaches, just Captains.

Also, I just realized that Wood has been Captain since his fourth year. Possibly even longer? In book one Gred & Forge say that they have his motivational speech memorized because they were on the team last year, and book three mentions that it is now his seventh year, so blah blah basic math; other than the ban on first years owning broomsticks, I don’t think the books ever mention any age limits, so we can infer that he has been Gryffindor Quidditch Captain since AT LEAST his fourth year.

Well, the new schedule has been posted.

I’m working every day until October 7th. And then I am working on the 8th as well.

Fortunately it isn’t just me. Andy and I are both working non-stop while Kyle is gone.

Chef is also taking some vacation time, so Jeremy is working a bunch as well. He and Andy are both scheduled for ten consecutive days of work. Which is one day less than my record. Eleven days in a row, that’s only three days less than working every single solitary day in an entire pay period!

Sigh.

At least my next paycheck should be fat?

Yesterday I finished Chamber of Secrets, so today I am very excited to start Prisoner of Azkaban! !!! !

This isn’t necessarily my “one” “favorite” book in the series (that’s Goblet of Fire), but I do still vividly recall the first time I read it. The final Quidditch match was so exciting that I sat straight up as I read it, and of course seeing how all the pieces of the mystery fit together completely blew my mind.

Also, I love Crookshanks. And Buckbeak. And Professor Lupin. And Sirius.

Well, this wonderful amazing three-day weekend I didn't even ask for will be over in approximately nine hours --- and then I'll be working six nights in a row, Friday to Wednesday.

That might sound like quite a lot more "bitter" than "sweet," but two big things to keep in mind:
1. I'll get paid on Monday!
2. With October first being the final shift of a six-day work week, I'll most likely be off on October third!

Also, ZERO of these six shifts are overnights! I'm scheduled until 11:00, but will stay a little late so I can sweep & mop the kitchen as needed.

Actually, I just did the math, and with lunch breaks factored in, if I leave at 11:00 on the dot for every one of these six nights, that will be thirty-nine hours, only one less than the dreaded overtime. So I guess I should double-check about whether or not I still need to worry about the floors so much? I dunno, I'd kind of rather just continue to do them unless someone tells me not to . . .

Another sweet thing to focus on is all of the fun pakidges (books and other fun stuff) scheduled to arrive between now and Wednesday afternoon.

I just sat down to drink wine & eat snacks (including a weed cookie) while watching the new Fantastic Four movie!
ryanreacts: (Default)
 Currently waiting for me to pick up:
* Box of cannabis
* Two kinds of ramen in two separate pakidges (I think)
* GoF and OotP
* Beedle the Bard

And then I have kind of a lot of other pakidges on their way here . . .
* Babysitter Courtney
* X-Men 97 Jubilee action figure
* X-Men 97 Funko Pops (which are being released on my actual birthday, no big deal): Jubilee, Storm, Nightcrawler --- these aren't supposed to arrive until October 7th; everything else on this list should arrive sooner than that
* new pair of shorts
* potion bottles
* Easter grass (pink)
* one more X-Men 97 toy --- stretchy Beast!

And here is a brief list of stuff I have not ordered yet, but really want to order soon . . .
* the final six Animorphs books, duh
* more X-Men 97 action figures to hang out with Jubilee and stretchy Beast
* complete set of Replica books
* some (or all, I guess? Not sure how many of these exist?) Bailey School Kids books
* Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (the tiny book, not the movie screenplay or anything)
* Spindle's End
* Born Confused
* Brown Girl Ghosted
* the other three (!) Practical Magic books
* Rose Daughter
* a few more Robin McKinley books
* Babysitter Skipper
* Pizza Party Skipper and Courtney
* a few more Courtney dolls?
* Cool Blue Barbie, Extreme Green Skipper, Purple Panic Christie, and Perfect Pink Teresa
* more Spin Master HP dolls (note: I don't like the Magical Minis figures nearly as much as the dolls --- but might get at least one, since they did make a figure of Parvati!)
* at least one MEGAZORD
* P.S. Longer Letter Later & Snail Mail No More
* some comics would be good, of course
* Oh! I keep forgetting! Wicked the book! Preferably the nice fancy hardcover edition that also includes the second book, Son of a Witch
* a few more action figures

 This morning I got up & got dressed in time to catch the 7:45 shuttle and eat a little breakfast --- both of which were sort of just killing time until the post office opened at 8:00. I walked in approximately ten minutes later, about to leap out of my skin with excitement to pick up three book pakidges, including one of the best birthday presents I will ever give or receive in my time on this planet:

An almost-complete set of Animorphs paperbacks that I bought on eBay for less than $300! (The last time I looked up a complete set of the books, the cheapest options were like $550.)

When this seller said "almost" complete, they meant that out of sixty-four books they are only missing ten. The first four of those ten are already on their way to me. When all four have been delivered, I'll start ordering the final six.

Obviously, I am beyond thrilled. I had resigned myself to re-reading all of the books someday on my Kindle, and of course the story is still excellent, but the actual paperback BOOKS are a huge upgrade for me.

I have been and still am very excited about all of the books I've been buying lately, but nothing can top the pure nostalgic thrill of having Animorphs on my bookshelf again. I'm so happy I could cry.

P.S. Another one of today's pakidges contained all twelve Everworld books, which were also written by K. A. Applegate.
I guess I might as well say that the third pakidge was Dawn Undercover by Anna Dale, which I read once approximately twenty years ago, but I do remember that it's quite funny and for this reason I enjoyed the heck out of it.
ryanreacts: (Default)
* Laundry, of course

* Go to post office ASAP tomorrow morning to pick up books

* Keep reading Harry Potter

* Get high and listen to at least one episode of Gilmore Girls

* Clean & organize

* Go to ice cream parlor! (Not sure if I want a milkshake or a double scoop)

* Watch a movie

* Buy some snacks from the general store, and maybe a bottle of wine

Even though I have been buying so many books on eBay lately with the flimsy excuse of “my birthday is coming up!” I just ordered something else I don’t need as a birthday present from me to me. Babysitter Courtney from 1990, still in the box, for a little more than $50 including tax. The confirmation email gives a delivery estimate of 9/26-10/2, and I might go ahead and order Skipper before then . . .
