Tuesday is currently the only day that Frankie & I are both off. This morning she said she wasn't sure if she felt like driving to Bozeman, even though she knew she would want weed this week. Ultimately she did decide that we should go, so I placed a Target pickup order before we left. I bought a bunch of essentials and groceries, BUT THEN also treated myself to four dolls (Draculaura 2.0 for $18, Clawdeen 2.0 for $20, and Scare-adise Island Frankie & Clawdeen for $13.50 each) and the My Little Pony Friendship Shine Collection, which has fourteen figures for $21.

I also ordered this for $20, but alas, it was out of stock.

As of this writing, I have opened the pony figures and Frankie! I am excited to get the other three dolls out of their boxes, but also want to pace myself, at least a little. I might open all three of them throughout the day tomorrow.

Obviously, this makes me want MORE Monster High dolls, including but not limited to . . .

Today is only my Wednesday, and my first payday of the new season is almost here, so on one hand of course I am somewhat impatient to get to my weekend. But tomorrow should be great, since I'll be working with Chunk (my favorite cook - don't tell him I said that) for the first time since Thursday. If I controlled the schedule, he and I would always have the same days off, because work is more fun when he's there. I know the point of work is not to have fun, but I'm just saying. IF.

You know, when I first heard about Doctor Who as a current thing, I never bothered to watch it for a decade. But now that the new season is finally airing, I am watching every new episode literally as soon as I am able to watch it, which is after work on Friday nights. Last night was the premiere, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the first TWO episodes were available! I was particularly looking forward to the second episode, "The Devil's Chord," which features a chaotic trickster god who eats music . . . played by Jinkx Monsoon. I love how queer the show is with RTD back at the helm.

. . . Yep, those are my two major updates. Work and Doctor Who. Also X-Men 97, of course! I need to watch every episode one more time to get ready for the finale.

Yesterday was the last day of my weekend, which was much fun because I unpacked all of my toys and found places to display most of them (except for the action figures and all but thirteen of the Doorables). I also washed all three pillows I bought at Goodwill on Tuesday. The covers are not detachable, so I had to individually wash and dry each pillow. Totally worth it. I can never have too many pillows, and these three are exceptionally comfortable.

Today was not bad or anything. I found out that my schedule has been changed so that I start at 2:00 instead of 1:00, which I like because it means I should not have to break down lunch, which ends at 1:00. On days when Jim is there I know he'll take care of everything. On the other three days, we'll see.
Anyway, like I said, today was not bad. Not at all. But for some reason it did make me uneasy. I am fucking hoping that reason is "just" anxiety!

  • Rainbow Buttterfly Unicorn Kitty 9 Lives Suprise (unopened and still in the plastic wrap)
  • Cloudees box full of accessories
  • Cloud Cats ball that held one Mixling and three LPS (polar bear, deer, and penguin)
  • plastic jar containing a teeny tiny Rarity; duplicate of the Cave Club pet rock & his pet fire; one MH Mini Frankie; one Pokemon whose name I don't know; smol translucent Pinkie Pie; smol EQG Applejack; and random accessories including Psylocke's sword
  • plastic bag full of 84 Doorables, similarly sized Captain Marvel and an LPS horse, and a blueberry muffin that belongs to EQG Minis Derpy
  • rolled-up plastic bag of a few MH clothes & accessories

Do I sort of have an itch to buy new toys right now? Yes. I have three Mixlings sitting in my cart, which would cost less than $18. Am I about to have a fantastic fucking time finding places to display some of these toys for free, though? Hell yes!

Ever since we moved here on December 19th, I have only unpacked a very select few of the not-many toys that made the journey from El Cajon. Q Posket Terra and a trasforming cheeseburger live on my desk. Tiny Storm hangs from one of the desk's drawer pullers. Blind Bag Pinkie Pie lives on my nightstand, not too far away from an LPS octopus & his BFF, a mini bull. And that's it. Six toys.

But I decided this weekend is the time to change that.

So far I have opened a small bag which contained:
  • an Ursula (specifically the 2023 Happy Meal toy, who was a gift from Lori)
  • Goose the cat
  • four tiny LPS
  • three Cloud Cats
  • four Monster High pets
  • a few Mixlings including three minis
  • one of my favorite Cloudees, the red panda
  • Cave Club pet rock & his pet fire
  • translucent pink witch hat, which is missing the figure who was supposed to wear it
  • thirteen of my favorite Doorables
  • Dia de Muertos cat
  • and the fairy cat I found on the ground at my horrible fast food security job

My first week back at work was Tuesday through Monday, which was mildly brutal, but I am okay with it because I did fulfill my goal of achieving overtime in my very first week of Summer 2024! Before overtime or tips, my check should be at least $800. I really hope we actually are busy enough to justify overtime every week. Jenn was the one who told me that, and she usually knows what is up.

Even though I only finished my re-read like a month or so ago, I am kind of wanting to re-read Harry Potter again sooner than later. And instead of going back to the library, I want to find a complete set of hardcovers on eBay. Would be fun to highlight favorite passages and write notes in the margins. Speaking of, I might as well also buy Tales of Beedle the Bard. Definitely not this paycheck, of course, but quite possibly the next one? Maybe not, because I really need to buy the first and third books in Rachael Allen's Harley Quinn trilogy. And I currently have five witchy books saved for later in my cart.

Since last night was my Friday, I ate a lot of RSO and got significantly stoned. No exaggeration, it was one of my top twenty experiences of ever being stoned. Highlights included watching Charmed with Frankie (the nymph episode) and then eating afterward. I scrambled some eggs for myself right away because I was very hungry, and as I was cooking Frankie came to the kitchen and made some of her spam musubi, which looked so good that I took pics of it and pics of her cooking it.

For at least this week and next, my weekend is Tuesday & Wednesday. Which means that I will be off when both of the final two episodes of X-Men 97 premiere! My excitement cannot be contained.

Day One

Apr. 30th, 2024 11:44 pm
ryanreacts: (Default)
 Well, it was . . . fine.

Yesterday was Frankie's first day back, and at 2:57 she texted to give a heads-up that I would likely be pressure washing the trash room. That sounded very satisfying, so it was on my mind when I arrived. But Tory wasn't there, so I asked Daniel what they needed from me, sort of anticipating that he would get me started on pressure washing right away. What he actually said was that I could jump in the dish pit with Jim. Of course I was happy to do this, because I enjoy washing dishes and Jim is hilarious.

But.

Unless Jim specifically says that he doesn't want to do them, there is no reason for me to wash dishes while he is there. Especially not WITH him. Washing dishes really is not a two-person job, n'est pas? And it's extra pointless on days like today, when we worked together for four hours. I could have literally ignored the dish pit that entire time and focused on cleaning projects OR completed time-consuming tasks that have to get done every night, such as sweeping & mopping the entire kitchen. Actually, he leaves at 2:00, which is too early for that particular task. I don't know, I could have broken down lunch with minimal help from Jim (other than washing the dishes, of course, which is a huge help) and then spent an hour deep-cleaning and then started sweeping & mopping the entire kitchen and then prepped any veggies we needed for the salad bar, then finished setting up for dinner.

Damn, this actually makes total sense.

P.S. At our meeting a few days ago, Tory mentioned that there will be a shuttle from staff housing to work and back. He also mentioned something about it occasionally driving us into Clyde Park and back, and even going to Livingston and back twice a month. That detail in particular made me imagine, you know, some sort of van. I don't know, maybe they are in the process of buying a van. But for now, the "shuttle" is just . . . calling Security to ask for a ride. Which is still great, since Frankie and I aren't working the same shifts this season.

Oh Fuck

Apr. 29th, 2024 10:11 pm

Tomorrow is my first day back at work, and for some reason I'm nervous even though there is really zero logical "reason" for it. We have worked with Tory before, but after he hired us over the phone he was somewhere else for most of the winter. So it's not like he's a total stranger or anything. But we have only worked with him a few times, so we are less familiar with him than we are with EVERYONE ELSE IN THE KITCHEN, so the fact that he's suddenly going to be In Charge for the foreseeable future makes me fucking nervous, okay? The fact that he seems to have some unrealistic expectations doesn't help.

So if Daniel was still In Charge (which he basically was all winter, even though "technically" Tory was In Charge from afar) I would only be excited about returning to work. I'm only a little nervous, though, since I know I'm prepared. I have new shoes and a new Sailor Jupiter keychain and emergency supplies to keep in my locker, like meds and a portable charger and an unopened five-pack of Sharpies.

I have to wake up early, but at least I knew that days in advance, so I planned ahead and bought an energy drink. That and a bagel will be my breakfast.

As for tonight, I have some noodles and hot caffeine-free tea. I might treat myself to puffy Cheetos or ice cream or both while I finish re-watching X-Men 97. Which reminds me . . .

THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS SUMMER (even if work sucks)
  • Payday!!! - every other Wednesday, although I usually get my direct deposit on Monday
  • X-Men 97 - this will be over in a few weeks, but . . .
  • Doctor Who - the new season starts on May 10th
  • Books - just bought six, already itching to buy a few more

Stuff

A few days ago, Frankie and I moved to the dorm next door. It was mostly her idea. She wanted one of the XL rooms (each building only has one or maybe two of them). I probably wouldn't have moved, but of course I would prefer to live in the same building as my sister, so I did. And I am quite glad! My room is pretty much exactly the same (although the art on the walls is way less awful), but somehow the bed is much more comfortable. I'm not moving again unless they make me. That's how comfortable this bed is. I might not need a mattress topper after all.

We knew it was going to happen around the end of April, and indeed, Mandatory Vacation Time is finally ending in a few short precious days. Frankie goes back to work Monday morning, and my first day will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM. We confirmed this today in a meeting with Tory (the Culinary Director, who hired us and saved us from Hell) and Jenn. One thing they mentioned was that there will be a shuttle from Staff Housing to Town, multiple times a day. This almost sounds too good to be true. Hooves Fucking Crossed that it actually is true. If it's not, I'm going to ask if I can ride a bike to and from work. Frankie wants to go back to working mornings, and I once again requested to close all the time, so it would be great if she didn't have to wait up to drive to work just to pick me up before going to bed.

Summer is supposed to last five or possibly six months. We're both going to save at least $1,000 a month, but it's actually feasible that we might be able to save more like $1,500 a month. If we do actually manage it, in five months that would be $7,000 each. I am beyond excited to figure out how we might spend the off season with that kind of money.

I guess it's kind of weird for me to say "the off season." We haven't been hired past summer, of course, it's way too early. But I am already kind of hoping we will be. It isn't easy for me to find or keep a job I actually like, and I actually like this one. A lot. Frankie does too. Coming back for winter, and then next summer as well, just makes sense. We could easily save so much money, and whenever we do eventually leave we will have much more culinary experience.

So, yeah. I am excited to return to work, but I am also impatient to get through the season so Frankie and I can spend two weeks in Seattle and then two and a half weeks in a beach town. For example. My point is, we are going to spend the next five or six months discussing our next vacation A LOT.

Television

I suppose now is a good time to briefly gush about the teevee I've been watching lately.

MONSTER HIGH - This show is so good it's scary! Goobert has been my favorite character since the second he first showed up, but I honestly love pretty much everyone. Cleo, Lagoona, and Toralei are all great, of course, but so are all three of the main trio. Deuce is great, Manny is great, Clawd is great. Abbey is great, Twyla is great (she could easily become my favorite not-Goobert character if she appeared more often), Headmistress Bloodgood is great, and Mrs O'Shriek is great. Heath is also great, but my only major complaint from the entire first season is that him being the son of Hades makes no sense unless he takes after HIS MOM, who never appears. And when Hades does appear, he has fire hair like Heath for some reason. (Also, um, who the fuck IS his mom, anyway? Did Hades cheat on Persephone?!)
But other than that one annoyance, I really don't know what to say about this show, other than I love it. As of this writing the last episode I saw was  203, so there are four new episodes waiting for me to watch them.
Oh, and of course watching the show does make me want to buy dolls, but so far I have resisted the temptation. So far.

DOCTOR WHO - I finally watched all four of last year's specials a few days ago, and of course they're so much fun that I immediately watched them a second time. Obviously it was great to see David & Catherine together again, and I am so excited to finally see Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor! He only has one and less-than-a-half episodes so far, and it is true that I have loved his actor since season one of Sex Education, but I still feel like there could be a chance that he might become my favorite Doctor? We shall see!
Season one (or season fourteen, or season forty) premieres in a few weeks. I've seen the trailer a few times, and oh yes, having this to look forward to will definitely help me get through the summer, even if work is crazy.

X-MEN '97 - For the first few weeks I really thought I might wait until the entire season was available before I watched. Then episode five came out, and as usual Twitter had some spoilers, but this time they were so big that my resolve dissipated on the spot and I paid for Disney Plus specifically to watch this show.
I knew I was going to love it, and guess what? I LOVE IT.
Storm has always been my favorite X-Man, my favorite Marvel character full stop, and my favorite comic book superhero in general. She's also one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, right up there with Elphaba and Korra and Tiffany and Willow and Harriet. I watched episode six less than twenty-four hours ago, and she gets a scene which is so goddamn fucking awesome that I have already watched it at least a dozen times and will probably watch it again as soon as I finish typing this entry. I love her so much more than words could ever say.

GOLDEN GIRLS
- Frankie and I have watched the entire first season and a few episodes of season two in the last few weeks. Really don't have much to say. This progrum is STILL wildly popular more than three decades after it ended for a reason, you know? I'm usually stoned when we watch, but even if I wasn't I would laugh my ass off.

CHARMED - Frankie and I are continuing season five at a leisurely pace. The night before last we watched the episode where Piper gives birth to the baby. But since the episode ends right after he's born, he hasn't gotten a name yet. I asked Frankie if she could guess his name. She guessed "Chris" (she saw a TikTok where someone mentioned "Chris Halliwell," but we haven't made it to his first episode yet) (note: when we do, she will know that his last name is Halliwell a long time before that gets revealed) and something else and then said, "Wyatt? No, that's so stupid! That's his last name!" Obviously I bit my tongue, but I am very excited for her to watch the next episode and find out that Piper really does name him Wyatt. Which isn't his last name (Frankie forgot Halliwell babies keep that name), but is his father's. She's right, it is so stupid that it can't possibly be true. And yet, it is canon.

Helena

Apr. 14th, 2024 04:50 pm
ryanreacts: (Default)
It's been a very good week.

On Monday Frankie texted me to say that she could not stay here for April 10th, so we finally made plans to go to Helena.

She booked a hotel that night, and on Tuesday we drove there. By the time we arrived we were both seriously hungry, so we let ourselves into the room, placed an online order at Slim Chickens, and immediately drove there to pick it up. The tenders and fries were good, but by far the best things they made were the jar desserts. We got three of the strawberry (supposed to be two, but I accidentally ordered extra) and one Oreo. Both of which were great, but strawberry was definitely the best.

Wednesday was April 10th, so as soon as we woke up we drove to Chili's, stopped at Safeway for some beverages and vegetable sushi on our way to pick it up, then headed back to the hotel room to eat and get stoned and watch The Lion King and pass out early.

Thursday we had breakfast from this place called Shellie's Country Cafe and Chili's again for dinner. This was extra exciting because I ordered a sandwich I had never had before, and they gave me a second sandwich for free. It was fucking delicious.

On Friday I'm not sure what we had for breakfast, but Frankie had a few errands to run, so while we were out we had two tacos each from Taco Bell, and then we went to this place called Hokkaido Ramen House where she got ramen and ordered teriyaki chicken and two cucumber sushi rolls. That night someone set off the smoke alarm, so we decided to get out of the hotel for a second and go back to Slim Chickens, where I tried to order another Oreo jar dessert, but they were out of them, which turned out to be for the better, because this time they did have brownie, which was by far the best of the three flavors I tried.

When we drove home yesterday we ran a few errands in Bozeman, so Frankie got some sort of noodles from Rice Thai. I was obviously tempted to get something as well, as we have been to another location of theirs before and the food was great, but I declined in favor of getting fucking Taco Bell later. No regrets, although I may kind of wish I had also eaten at Rice Thai, you know?

It is good to be home and have my own bedroom again, but oh the holy what now, my bed is significantly less comfortable than the one I had at the hotel. I need to buy a mattress topper or something.

Today started out great because Frankie made scrambled eggs & toast with jam for both of us about two hours after I woke up. Then I cleaned my room for a while, then relaxed and started to watch X-Men '97, but a few minutes into it Frankie invited me to join her outside for a while. That was awesome, but now that I wrote down all of the places we got food in Helena I am quite excited to prepare a snack, get a little bit stoned-er, and start the first episode again from the beginning, because what I've seen so far is X-CELLENT.

So far we haven't actually made any plans to do it, but Frankie mentioned the idea of taking a trip to Helena (it's a two-hour drive) specifically to eat at this place called Slim Chickens, which really does sound good enough to travel for.

Tomorrow I am going to tell her that we need to actually make some plans, because Helena also has a Chili's. We haven't had Chili's since we left Washington, because there are none around here. Only two in Montana, actually, and Helena is the closest to us.

Obviously we should get a hotel so we can go to Slim Chickens, then eat some gummies, then get Chili's delivered.

I found a hotel (with what looks like a really nice breakfast!) which is a three-minute drive from Chili's, five minutes from Slim Chickens, and seven minutes from Montana Book Company. Where I can apparently buy Wintersmith, I Shall Wear Midnight, The Shepherd's Crown, and Harley Quinn: Reckoning for $55.

Come on, I mean, this needs to happen.

Frankie has a hair appointment on Wednesday, so we probably wouldn't want to travel until Thursday morning at the earliest (and it would be a mild miracle if Frankie was able to get ready to leave before noon) . . . but, yes, we can totally afford this! We have the money, we have the time. I wish it wasn't 5:32 AM, because I would really like to discuss this with her, like, now.

Updates

Apr. 1st, 2024 11:26 pm

Last night I finished my Harry Potter re-read, which was bittersweet enough, but then today happened to be Fred & George's birthday. George turned forty-six years old.

Speaking of tragic deaths, Chance Perdomo died a few days ago. He was only twenty-seven. He was so hot and so talented. Next time I watch Sabrina, every time I see his face I will feel sad.

Anyway! In happier news!

Today was the day Frankie and I finally went to Walmart to pick up groceries and knock out several other errands while we were in Bozeman. She got a new phone, I bought four grams of RSO & three bags of gummies and she bought eight brownies at Elevated, I returned four Harry Potter books to the library, and a few other things. Including my second trip to Best Burger, which really lives up to its name. I mean, I wouldn't say they have the best burgers I've ever had in my life, but definitely the best burgers I've had in a long time. Well, after the one Daniel made me to say thank you for all my hard work the previous night. But that was like three weeks ago, and feels even longer because of Mandatory Vacation Time. And he didn't make waffle fries.

Although we are planning to go back to Bozeman as soon as Wednesday, the day after tomorrow, for Frankie's haircut. And we've been seriously talking about taking a day trip to Helena. And obviously it hasn't been boring in any kind of bad way. Just, you know, the days kind of blur together.

Also, today I got paid for my last week of work. My calculations indicated that, in exchange for thirty-six hours and however many minutes, I would receive a little more than $500. The actual amount was only a few dollars less than $800. Frankie only informed me that we do get tips a few pay periods ago. I was under the impression that we might occasionally get cash tips, but no, all guests are required to tip at least twenty percent or something, and it's just automatically added to our direct deposits.

Ah yes, one more good thing that happened today! Our first errand was a quick stop in Jenn's office to collect my Amazon pakidge containing a new portable speaker and the first two Tiffany Aching books. Obviously I'll need to buy the last three sooner than later if I'm going to re-read all five. I also want to buy the first and third books in the Harley Quinn trilogy. And, of course Sure, I'll Join Your Cult by Maria Bamford. But other than that, I am not allowed to even think about spending money on books until I am back at work. And even then, should really go to the library anyway.

Oh, on the drive home tonight it was so dark that Frankie almost hit two deer in rapid succession, one right after the other. That was a super fun thing to happen to us on the first day of fucking April.

  • more socks
  • more t-shirts
  • more pajama pants

Yesterday I spent $380 on gas plus Walmart, then another $80 on Amazon because a few non-perishable things I really wanted from Walmart were out of stock, like the two Rapid Mac Cookers and the peanut butter powder. A few hours later, I also paid $13 for this bag.

I need a new laptop. I was planning to spend $200 on a newer version of this one, but in my shopping around I found one with a bigger screen for only $184!!! I ordered that just now, along with a new portable speaker for the dish pit and the first two Tiffany Aching books, making the total cost $239. When I placed the order, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the laptop is apparently going to arrive tomorrow. I'm not going to fret over it, but if that actually does happen it would be great.

After placing three orders in two days, I figured I should renew my month-long free trial of Prime, which ends today. $15 is worth it for the free shipping alone. Sometime soon I'm going to treat myself to a month of Paramount Plus for Yellowjackets and the new Mean Girls (and Monster High, if they have that).

I hope summer really is as busy as Jenn says, because all that overtime will make it very easy to continue my goal of saving at least $1,000 a month, even though we have to start paying rent.
